Lets get into some Acts shall we..... Act 3:1-10 1Now (A)Peter and John were going up to the temple at the [a]ninth hour, (B)the hour of prayer. 2And (C)a man who had been lame from his mother's womb was being carried along, whom they (D)used to set down every day at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, (E)in order to beg [b]alms of those who were entering the temple. 3When he saw (F)Peter and John about to go into the temple, he began asking to receive alms. 4But Peter, along with John, (G)fixed his gaze on him and said, "Look at us!" 5And he began to give them his attention, expecting to receive something from them. 6But Peter said, "I do not possess silver and gold, but what I do have I give to you: (H)In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene--walk!" 7And seizing him by the right hand, he raised him up; and immediately his feet and his ankles were strengthened. 8(I)With a leap he stood upright and began to walk; and he entered the temple with them, walking and leaping and praising God. 9And (J)all the people saw him walking and praising God; 10and they were taking note of him as being the one who used to (K)sit at the Beautiful Gate of the temple to beg alms, and they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him.
Now it goes on in the rest of the chapter as Peter's second sermon. I recomend you read it!! However what I want to touch base on is what happens after all of this and what we need to focus on as walking, talking followers.
What happened actually goes into chapter 4:1-12 1As they were speaking to the people, the priests and (A)the captain of the temple guard and (B)the Sadducees (C)came up to them, 2being greatly disturbed because they were teaching the people and proclaiming (D)in Jesus the resurrection from the dead. 3And they laid hands on them and (E)put them in jail until the next day, for it was already evening. 4But many of those who had heard the message believed; and (F)the number of the men came to be about five thousand. 5On the next day, their (G)rulers and elders and scribes were gathered together in Jerusalem; 6and (H)Annas the high priest was there, and (I)Caiaphas and John and Alexander, and all who were of high-priestly descent. 7When they had placed them in the center, they began to inquire, "By what power, or in what name, have you done this?" 8Then Peter, (J)filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, "(K)Rulers and elders of the people, 9if we are on trial today for (L)a benefit done to a sick man, as to how this man has been made well, 10let it be known to all of you and to all the people of Israel, that (M)by the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, whom you crucified, whom (N)God raised from the dead--by this name this man stands here before you in good health. 11"(O)He is the (P)STONE WHICH WAS (Q)REJECTED by you, THE BUILDERS, but WHICH BECAME THE CHIEF CORNER stone. 12"And there is salvation in (R)no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved."
So the priests and Sadducees are a little angry and kinda jealous......go figure. So then Peter with the Holy Spirit pulls a pretty sweet burn on the "up-and up's." He pretty much can't stop preaching about Jesus!! AWESOME!!!!
Then it goes on in 13-20 13Now as they observed the (A)confidence of (B)Peter and John and understood that they were uneducated and untrained men, they were amazed, and (C)began to recognize them as having been with Jesus. 14And seeing the man who had been healed standing with them, they had nothing to say in reply. 15But when they had ordered them to leave the (D)Council, they began to confer with one another, 16saying, "(E)What shall we do with these men? For the fact that a (F)noteworthy miracle has taken place through them is apparent to all who live in Jerusalem, and we cannot deny it. 17"But so that it will not spread any further among the people, let us warn them to speak no longer to any man (G)in this name." 18And when they had summoned them, they (H)commanded them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus. 19But (I)Peter and John answered and said to them, "(J)Whether it is right in the sight of God to give heed to you rather than to God, you be the judge; 20for (K)we cannot stop speaking about what we have seen and heard."
Let's talk about these verses for awhile. Lets focus on Peter and John for a minute. It says they were uneducated and untrained. Lets face it.....they were just a couple of fishermen....and pretty lousy at it as well. But it also says they recognized them as being with Jesus. I don't know about you, but that pretty much sums it all up right there. Not to mention the Holy Spirit, which is God, by God, for God is with Peter Equiping him. So they are able stand their ground because they know Christ is amazing!!!! Right!?!?! God is with them and through the Holy Spirit he is gaining knowledge, wisdom, strength.......he is being Equiped. Amen!!
But it keeps on when the "Up-and-Up's" decide to let them go but charge them to never speak of Christ again. In verse 19 however, Peter an John just keep on telling them about what they have seen. They tell them to think what they will pretty much, but they can not stop professing them name of Christ!!
Let this be an encouragment to us all that we need be excited and ready for Christ. Live for Him cause He died for you. Remeber this harsh reallity as well......He didn't need to die for you......God doesn't need us. He chose to give his life and take our sins.....GRASP THIS........God chose this because He Loves you!!!! What makes it better is that He is risen!!!!!!! That is reason enough to not shut up about Christ. Lets keep it all about Him.......not about us, or our will.......Keep it about Christ and He will give us what we need.
